Established in June 2018 by the Oyelakin twin brothers, PLAYLUX was founded on their love for luxury items, which many view as a symbol of success.
Like many seasoned business owners who started during their college years, we began Playlux by sourcing supplies from the bustling Lagos market. We connected with numerous professional wholesalers who, despite the absence of social networks and the internet, were thriving by selling to retailers in the fashion industry across Nigeria and Africa.
The demand for these products quickly spread from Nigeria to the rest of Africa. However, one critical aspect overlooked by wholesalers was that consumers were often unaware that the brands on these products were not the actual brand owners. While wholesalers were transparent with retailers, some retailers, especially those selling on social platforms, would mislead uninformed buyers by selling these imitation products as genuine brands.
Purchasing a counterfeit item, only to discover the truth from informed friends and family, can be incredibly embarrassing. This practice has led to a lack of consumer feedback and tarnished the reputation of honest retailers who aim to sell these products truthfully to their customers.
We began by sourcing fashion items such as sneakers, hats, and apparel from retail platforms that offer original brands in Europe, the US, and Canada. Some of our watches are Swiss-made, acquired from a trusted source. The majority of our other jewelry, including INDEX Rings and Playlux watches, are made in China. Join us on this journey as we grow together, striving to provide you with the best possible service as you shop with us.
